Cristal Theatre, ArubaAruba, April 2004
The Entertainment Group, SOUND PROJECTS agent for Aruba, delivered and installed a unique 14 channel SOUND PROJECTS SP3-90 Cinema system in the cinema/theatre of the Crystal Theatre in Oranjestad. The new sound system will be used for reinforcing the surround sound of the daily shown panorama movie.
To create the surrounding wall of sound a panorama movie requires, Erik Jan Sperling (M.D. of The Entertainment Group) worked together with the English based sound designer Peter Key, responsible for the project. The installed SOUND PROJECTS system consists of: 5 x SP3-90 C systems, 2 x SP4-15 and 8 x X-act. Behind each of the five large movie screens (each 3,5 x 4 metre) one SP3-9 C is positioned. To augment the lowest sub octaves, two SP4-15s are placed behind the middle screen. In the ceiling, all around the auditorium, eight SOUND PROJECTS X-act monitors were mounted, to create the optimal surround sound.
The movie is recorded on 14 discreet channels with room equalisation and delays provided by BSS SoundWeb. Outputs are sent separately to each of the active loudspeakers. The complete panorama movie system (sound, screens, etc.) is plug and play mobile, to be able to make place for the Cuban Dance Show which is also shown in the same auditorium (400 seats).
Peter Key quotes: "It was decided very early on, that an active loudspeaker installation was called for. The established evening show with it?s numerous costumes and stage sets, consumes almost the entire backstage space. There was just no room for additional racks of cinema amplification. All 7 screen loudspeakers have to be moved off the stage each evening and replaced the next morning, 6 days a week over a period of many years. Sound Projects' long experience in the design and practical application of reliable, active and very compact loudspeakers was a major factor in them being chosen to supply the audio system. Film production was carried out in Norway and the UK with final mixing taking place in the Crystal Theatre using a Soundscape DAW. Sound Projects' willingness to adapt a range of their loudspeaker specifically for this application has contributed to this very successfully acclaimed unique movie experience."
